It seems that my line of Hurts (there are several branches) emigrated (at different times to the colonies from England (many from the Bristol area) and settled in Virginia in the 1600’s. After the Revolutionary War, many families of Hurts moved out of Virginia, settling in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. From those states, they fanned out across the country. These Hurt pages are just a start at collecting information on the Hurts, but there is much work to be done. Be sure to read the manuscripts listed below to get a larger picture of some of these early Hurt families.

I’m researching HURT family – related to Philip Hurt (d. 1845 in Robertson, Tn) who married Polly Allen in 1808 in Davidson, Tn. Moza Hurt is a signer on the marriage surety. I’ve also found Moza Hurt within the inventory of intestate will in Robertson Tn, purchasing items from inventory from estate or Richard Stone Wilks in 1844.
I haven’t found another Moza Hurt after the original – but surely they are related? Do you have any information?
Karen, thanks for the treasure trove of source material on the Hurts. I just recently confirmed via DNA I’m in the Hurt line; I’m descended from a Hurt who had children by one of his slaves. One of those mixed-race children was my GG-grandmother.
Happy to invite you to my tree on Ancestry.com if you are interested.
Hey William Hurt here,San Francisco. My Grand Father Rodolph Hurt was Welch he married SARAH HURT nee Paulson. My great uncle was it the ambassador to Ecuador under Abraham Lincoln we had a desk that was a gift from Abraham Lincoln to my great uncle and my grandmother’s front room. My grandmother’s family the Paulsons were with the Donner party but knew that it was too late in the season so they hooked left and founded the San Joaquin valley becoming prestigious agriculturalists. Another great uncle was married to Daniel Boone’s sister he live in Oakland and was a forensic odontologist involved in a big murder case first time forensic dental work was ever used he was trained in Washington DC by the government anyway if any of these rings a bell we’re kinfolk . I’m trying to get the correct crest and coat of arms do you know what it is? Thanks for all the information
