There is a Hurt Cemetery located between Atwood and McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee, about one-half mil south of McLemoresville. It’s on private land owned by a Mr. Johnson. It was established in 1827. Tombstones read as follows:

Emily, wife of R. M. Hurt D. Aug. 26, 1858?

Rebecca Mitchum, wife of William E. Mitchum, D. Oct. 6, 1853 Age 35 yr., 9 mo., 10 das.

G. S. Hurt (no dates)

Philemon Hurt, Sr. died January 17, 1827

Robert Hurt, Aug. 2, 1781 – Dec. 26, 1841

Jane G. Hurt, wife of Robert Hurt, Apr. 15, 1790 – Nov. 24, 1832

G. C. Hurt May 9, 1814 – March 16, 1866

Philemon Hurt Jr. died August 25, 1853 Age 27 ye., 4 mo.

This information came from an article called “Through the Yellowed Pages” a column of the Carroll County Historical Society printed in The McKenzie Banner from Wednesday, July 25, 1979. I have never been to the Hurt Cemetery and have no way of verifying the dates given above. If anyone has further information or pictures of the tombstones, I would very much appreciate your contacting me.
