My line of Jordans emigrated probably from England and settled in Virginia counties of Lunenburg, Amelia, and Halifax, later moving into the Triune area of Williamson County, Tennessee, in the 1790’s.
My Line
…………… Samuel Jordan (d. 1760-1761) of Amelia County
……………… Samuel Jordan ()
………………… Edward Jordan (1720-1791) + Elizabeth McConnico (1720-1794)
…………………… William Jordan Sr. (1748-1822) + Sarah J. Wood (1753-1843)
……………………… William Jordan (1792-1863) + Mary Medy Boyd (1795-Bef. 12 Dec 1833)
………………………… Louisa Ellen Jordan (1827-1876) + Joseph David Hurt (1822-1864)
So far I’ve proved this line back to Edward Jordan.

- Re: SAMUEL JORDAN (d.1623) – DEMYSTIFICATION – SOURCES – this is a great list of sources for those looking into the Samuel Jordan known as an “Ancient Planter” who married Cecily Reynolds of Jamestown, VA. Wikipedia also has a mostly factual page on him as well.
I am also a direct descendant of William Jordan who died in Triune. Long distant cousins. My grandmother has done some amazing research! If you are ever in Franklin TN you HAVE to go the the museum there. It’s free also. Lots of stuff from our family is on display.
Thanks! I’ll do that. Would love to visit there some day.
Hello Karen. I am a descendent of William Jordan via his son Johnson Jordan. Really appreciate the sharing you’ve done on your site. Are you part of the Jordan Surname DNA project? I just discovered it and am curious what you think of it if you have experience.

Hi Brian, Thanks for appreciating the sharing! I appreciate you appreciating, lol. No, I am not part of the Jordan Surname DNA Project because I am not a male Jordan so I can’t participate. I did, however, get my DNA done at Ancestry.com and am a “strong” confidence level member of the William Jordan (of Triune, TN) DNA Circle.
Hello !
By chance do you know of a Matthew Jordan of North Carolina 1770-1849 married Abigail Merlin ? His son was Joseph his wife Rebecca. What I’m researching is the father/mother of Matthew Jordan. Thank you for your time

Hello!
DNA shows that my ancestors are related to Jonas Jordan of Amelia County. Is this also part of your Jordan line?
Thank you for your help!
My line is as listed above, at least as far as I’ve been able to determine at this moment. It’s possible that your Jonas Jordan is related somehow. I’ll keep an eye out for the name as I’m doing my research.
Karen. Just read your comment of 2019 that the Williamson County Tennessee Jordans are not descended from the Planter of Jamestown, Samuel Jordan. It is 2024 and I wonder if you still feel the same? My husband is descended from William Jordan of Lunenburg died 1822 in Triune through two of William’s children, Benjamin and William. Louisa Ellen Jordan who you mention specifically is my husband’s third great grandmother. Was there a specific moment/ research focus when you realized there was no connection with the Jordan of Jamestown? Thank you for any help.
