Death
Excerpts From Tribute to William Archer Jordan
William A. Jordan was born in Williamson County, Tennessee … died at his home near Bell Buckle … as a friend that has known him intimately and well for many years …. His early life was quiet and uneventful, until the outbreak of our Civil War, when he responded to his country’s call, and served with honor as Second Lieutenant of Company -24th Tenn. Regiment, C.S.A. He was wounded at that dreadful and memorable Battle of Franklin, in his native county. He was carried out to his home, and cared for by the tender and loving hands of his mother … he has been a citizen of Bedford County (since his marriage) and a consistent member of M.E. Church, South. As husband and father, he was very kind and indulgent, looking constantly to the comfort and welfare of his family. As a neighbor and citizen, he was an exemplar, in his acts of kindness, in uprightness, in walk and in honest dealings and great respect for the rights of others … he sought to know his duty and did it. “Billy” Jordan is dead. We mourn his departure as a good man, a good citizen, and his grief-stricken family have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends. By -M.
