William Joseph Lannom was born on September 14, 1849, probably in Gibson County, Tennessee. He appears in an 1850 U.S. Census for Gibson County, TN, District 11, with his parents, Milton, a farmer, and Mary. William also became a farmer. William died on 7/20/1919 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Milan, Tennessee. He was known as “Bill.”
Jackson or Joseph: What is William’s middle name?
I had always thought William’s middle name was Jackson but my uncle corrected it to Joseph. It seems to appear both ways in records. His daughter Lydie’s delayed birth certificate, which she signed herself in 1952, records his middle name as “Jackson.”

William married Sarah Elizabeth Hurt on December 28, 1881, in Carroll County, TN.

Obituary
W.J. Lannom Passes To Reward
A Life Long Citizen of Gibson County and Leading CitizenMr. W. J. Lannom, died at his home three and one half miles north of Milan at midnight Monday night from pernicious anaemia. He had been in feeble health and his death was not unexpected by his family and friends. He was in his seventieth year and had he lived until September 14 would have rounded out his three score and ten years.
Mr. Lannom was born and reared in this county and has always been one of the leading citizens of his community. He was a farmer, a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and a very kind and indulgent father. He leaves one son Herman Lannom of Humboldt, and three daughters, Mrs. Lige Lessenberry of Gibson, Mrs. Luther Mayo of Milan and Miss Ethel Lannom, who was at home with him.
The funeral was conducted at the grave in Oakwood Cemetery Tuesday afternoon at six oclock by Rev. Clark, pastor of the Baptist Church of Humboldt, and the body laid to rest in the family lot.
The many friends of the family extend their sympathy.
