Birth
Molly was born in West Hebron, New York in 1833
Marriage
She married James Henry Smith in 1853 in Mississippi.
Death
Mary died in Carroll County, Mississippi, in 1867 following the birth of her fifth child in 1866. According to another descendant, Mary Jane “Molly’s” headstone dates are incorrect. The headstone is a modern one, which perhaps replaced the original.
Wow the dates on Molly are all over the place…the above states June 8, 183l – Oct 10 1864, but she had a daughter in 1866.
If you’d like to flesh out Molly a little bit:
Her father was Deacon John McClellan, 1799-1863 and her mother was Isabel Cummings, 1801-1833 both of West Hebron, Washington County, New York.
Where did you find the information that Nicola Gordon’s father was a duke? Highly unlikely since a duke is the highest title under king. There are so much erroneous
material out there, and it become self-perpetuating. So frustrating when one is trying to ascertain the truth.
Did you find any info on how Molly & James met given he was from Mississippi and she was from NY?
Julia, Good question. I don’t know the answer but I believe that Clinton McClellan Smith, who commented above, is writing a book on the McClellans so perhaps we’ll find out more when he publishes.
