Birth
1740 possibly in Londonderry Township, Chester County, PA.
Residence
The idea of locating a town near the month of Warrior run first occurred to John Watson, who laid it out in 1794, and in honor of whom it received its name. John was the original purchaser of the site, May 13, 1792.
Military Service
John fought in the Revolutionary War as a private in Captain John Ramsay’s Londonderry Company, Second Battalion, Chester County Militia, Colonel Evan Evans, April 24, 1778.
Death
John died on January 5, 1815, in Watsontown, PA. He and his wife Mary Correy were buried in the Old Warrior Run Presbyterian Graveyard (where the Memorial Park is located today) and their remains were later removed to the new Watsontown Cemetery. Among the first transfers from the old burying ground were the remains of the Watson family.
