We’ve all got them. Moldering in the attic, orphaned in a drawer, tucked in with yellowing, handwritten letters. Yes, I’m talking about those family mystery photos that we can’t identify, whether a portrait, family picture, vacation photo or, in my case, shots of unidentified homes. I’m posting mine here in the hope that someone might recognize them.
The pictures above and below came from the Furst side of the family. No idea where these homes are!
This one (below) came with the Fay box. In that line are a bunch of Wells family members. I feel like this house might have belonged to one of them. And look at all those people standing around in this picture! Why didn’t they inscribe their names on the back of the photo??!!
House 1640 calls to mind, the long gone Maplewood in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Note the similar arched windows over the entrance.
For more photos of Maplewood, do a Google search or make contact with the Virginia Room of the City of Fairfax Regional Library: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/vr/
Yes, it’s similar but the portico is different and there’s no porch across the front. Anyway, thanks for the idea!
Karen: I have a copy of the unidentified barn which was shows the names of the family members riding with Franklin Parker Wells and dates it as 1874 and taken in Millett, Michigan. I will send you copies of it and 3 other photos by e-mail if you contact me at my e-mail address. Franklin was my great-great grandfather.
