These are paintings of my ancestors, John Fraser Farquhar (1821-1866) and Sarah Wilson (1823-1906). I have pictures of these but I have never seen the originals and I don’t know where they are. I would love to locate them. They were in the possession of Carolyn Farquhar and my aunt says they were donated to a museum somewhere. Here are the places that do not have them: Lehigh County Historical Society and the Allentown Art Museum. I have emails in to Lafayette College and the Michener Art Museum to see if they have the art in their collections.
This first one is an oil painting. I don’t know who the artist is.
These two were drawn reportedly by John Farquhar himself, a self-portrait and a drawing of his wife.
Again, if you have any information on the whereabouts of these paintings, please leave a comment below, thanks!
Hi Karen – long time, no hear, etc. The last time we chatted you were working in Chads Ford and I was researching Alexander Wilson and Margaret McElroy of Easton, PA. I’m still looking! I knkow their daughter, Jane Gray Wilson married Samuel Swan McLean of Summitt Hill, PA in 1855 and apparenlty followed him to Denver in 1860 and Bannack, MT in 1862, He was elected as the first delegate from MT to Congree in 1864, retired to Burkeville, VA where he died in 1879(?). Jane (aka Jennie) thyen married someone named Riley.
Anyway, John Farquahar married Sallie Wilson who was a sister of Jane Gray Wilson. He became a minister at the York, PA Presby. Ch. – Dan Wilson,
