Many of my Smith ancestors lived in Carroll County, Mississippi, including my grandfather, great-grandfather, and so on. One Smith, not in my direct line, was Harry Smith, who owned the Pine Bluff Plantation.

If you type in the place name of Pine Bluff, MS, into Google maps, you will be shown a spot at the intersection of Turkey Creek Road and Pine Bluff Road near Decatur, MS. This is not the location of the Smith property. The Smith Pine Bluff property is located near Sidon, MS, along County Road 75, which is also called Pine Bluff Road. So apparently there are two Pine Bluff Roads in Mississippi.

To find the Pine Bluff Smith property location on Google Maps, you must use the following search phrase, “County Road 75: Sidon, MS 38954.” See the maps below.

One of our Smiths dug up this wonderful group photo, taken in 1938, of a Smith reunion held on the Pine Bluff property. Owner Harry Smith is standing 14th from the left.

Another Smith relative told me the photo was probably taken near Round Lake.

Today the property or part of it is for sale via Sartain’s Heritage Properties. Here’s the description of the property from the ranchflip.com website.

“The Smith Place at Abiaca Creek is one of the only properties of this size and contiguous nature fronting the bluff hills of Carroll County Mississippi and overlooking the Mississippi delta, comprised of over 1,700 acres of timberlands, sandy loam agriculture land, watershed lakes with creek frontage along Abiaca Creek, a beautiful sand and gravel bottom live creek running year-round. The Smith Place, has been well managed for long term timber production as well as wildlife. Given the location, whitetail deer genetics from the Mississippi delta and hill region can blend producing incredible deer. The mixed age class and diversity of the hardwood and pine timber creates an excellent timber investment portfolio, offering a wide range of management choices for production and wildlife. The property has no encumbrances which further allows investors to maximize the natural resources of this investment. The Smith Place at Abiaca Creek offers its owners year-round recreational opportunities with a firm backbone in timber production, annual income in a well-diversified property.”

I’d like to know if there are any original structures on the property? Perhaps Harry Smith’s house is still standing? Are there photos of it? If you know, please share in the comments.
